Batch Rename Your Digital Photos

SUMMARY: PhotoScape can batch rename photos by adding prefixes and suffixes, auto-incrementing numbers, and/or dates and times.

While many batch file renamers exist to help bring uniformity to your digital photos, a Rename tool exists inside PhotoScape. While it does not provide as extensive a set of options as some third-party tools, you may find it suitable for your needs.

1. From the PhotoScape main menu, click the "Rename" button.

2. The "Rename" dialog box appears. Click the "Add" button to add files to be renamed.

3. Underneath "File Naming", enter prefix and/or suffix text if desired in the appropriate text boxes.

4. In between the prefix and suffix text boxes, click the pull-down to choose the rename file format using a combination of dates, times, and/or auto-incrementing numbers.

5. Click the "Separator" pull-down to choose a separator between the new file elements.

6. Click the "File Date", "Photo Date", or "Today's Date" radio button to choose the date (if applicable) to be added to the filename.

7. Underneath "Date - Time", choose the date and/or time formats as appropriate.

8. Underneath "Starting Number", choose a different starting number, if desired, and the number of digits for the auto-incrementing number.

9. As you choose options, you will see filename previews underneath the "New Name" column. If you want to perform the rename, click the "Convert" button. And if you click it by accident, the "Rollback" button undos the rename.

10. When done, click the "X" at the top-right of the dialog box to close it.
