Digital Portrait Photography - Overexpose to Reduce Blemishes

When shooting digital portraits, one technique you may want to consider is slightly overexposing the photo. This can reduce blemishes and other variations in skin tone on your subject's face. Since slightly overexposing an image reduces some of its detail, the 'detail' of the blemishes might get washed out. Note that this requires a lot of experimentation and image bracketing. You don't want to overexpose to the point of washing out all of a person's facial features.

If you find that a slight overexposure doesn't work in your situations, you can always modify the photos afterwards in PhotoShop, PhotoPaint, Paint Shop Pro, or other powerful photo editing software. Be sure to save the original before you perform retouching!
