PowerPoint 2003 Menus - Toolbars - Status Bar - Add Menu Option to View Slide Show in a Window

SUMMARY: View your PowerPoint 2003 slide show in a window without modifying the Show Type options.

By default, Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 presentations are displayed in full screen mode. However, there is an option to view the slide show in a window, making it easier for you to switch between applications while viewing the show.

This option requires modifying the Slide Show configuration, which means you must remember to turn it off when done if you want the slide show viewed full screen. What if there was a way to perform this task via the PowerPoint menu?

1. Select "Tools" - "Customize".

2. The "Customize" multi-tabbed dialog box appears. Select the "Commands" tab.

3. Click the "Rearrange Commands" button.

4. The "Rearrange Commands" dialog box appears. Make sure the "Menu Bar" radio button is selected.

5. Click on the pull-down next to that radio button and select "View".

6. Click the "Add" button.

7. The "Add Command" dialog box appears. Underneath "Categories" click "View".

8. Underneath "Commands" scroll down and click "Slide Show in a Window".

9. Click "OK" to close the "Add Command" dialog box.

10. In the "Rearrange Commands" dialog box, click the "Slide Show in a Window" command.

11. Click the "Move Down" button three times. This places the command underneath the "Slide Show" command.

12. Click "Close" on the dialog boxes.

Now you can choose from the "Slide Show" or "Slide show in a window" options from PowerPoint 2003's "View" menu without having to change the show type.
