SUMMARY: Prevent PowerPoint 2007 from trying to select whole words when you select text.
In Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, when you select text with the mouse, you may note that as you start to select multiple words, entire words get selected via minor mouse movements instead of individual characters. PowerPoint does this as a "convenience", thinking that if you are selecting large groups of text, entire word selection will be quicker than character selection.
Many people find this automatic word selection an annoyance and would rather have finer control over the text they wish to select. If you fall in this category, this 'feature' can be disabled:
1. Click the "Office" button.
2. When the popup appears, click "PowerPoint Options".
3. The "PowerPoint Options" dialog box appears. Select "Advanced" in the left pane.
4. Underneath "Editing Options", uncheck "When selecting, automatically select entire word".
5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 - Stop Automatically Selecting Whole Words
