Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 - Automatically Save Presentations for Older PowerPoint Users

SUMMARY: By default, save PowerPoint 2007 presentations in a format usable by those running older versions of PowerPoint.

By default, Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 saves presentation files in a native format that can prove problematic for those running Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 or earlier. Those users will not be able to view or edit PowerPoint 2007 presentations without add-ons or additional software.

If you frequently share files with users of older versions of PowerPoint, you can make the default save format one that is viewable by PowerPoint 1997-2003 users. Note that if you save files in the older format, if you happen to use features new to PowerPoint 2007 and not in the older versions, you will be notified.

1. Click the "Office" button.

2. When the popup appears, click "PowerPoint Options".

3. The "PowerPoint Options" dialog box appears. Select "Save" in the left pane.

4. In the right pane, underneath "Save presentations", click the pull-down next to "Save files in this format".

5. Select "PowerPoint Presentation 97-2003".
