PowerPoint 2003 Text Formatting and Fonts

Toggle Showing Font Previews

SUMMARY: Toggle whether or not Microsoft PowerPoint 2003's font pull-down should display font names in their respective fonts.

When editing text in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 slides, the application toolbar contains a pull-down where you can change the current font. Depending on your configuration, font names may all be displayed in a standard font, or they may be displayed using the actual fonts themselves. Times New Roman will be displayed with serifs, Windings-style fonts will be displayed with sample symbols, the Impact font will be displayed block-like, etc.

If you have too many fonts on an older system, it may take a while for PowerPoint 2003 to display this pull-down. Also, some people would rather just see font names, finding some of the previews hard to read since they are drawn using a small font size. Thus, to toggle the behavior:

1. Click "Tools" - "Customize".

2. When the "Customize" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Options" tab.

3. Underneath "Other", check or uncheck "List font names in their font" as desired.

4. Click "Close" when you are finished.

Note that this configuration option may affect other Office applications installed on your system, such as Microsoft Word.
