Stop Accidentally Moving Text

SUMMARY: Prevent accidentally moving text in Publisher 2007 by dragging and dropping.

If you need to move large blocks of text within a Microsoft Publisher 2007 document, you can select the text with your mouse, keep the left-button held down, and drag the mouse to another section of your document. Release the mouse button and your text will move to that location.

While drag-and-drop text editing may prove to be more convenient than using the standard cut-and-paste technique, this feature makes it easy to accidentally move text without meaning to do so, especially for those using laptop touchpads. Thus, a tweak can disable this feature:

1. Select "Tools" - "Options".

2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Edit" tab.

3. Underneath "Text editing", uncheck the first box - "Drag-and-drop text editing".

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

Return to the Microsoft Publisher 2007 page.
