Microsoft Publisher 2010

Grayscale, Sepia, or Tint an Image

SUMMARY: For artistic reasons, convert an image in a Publisher 2010 document to grayscale, give it a sepia tone, or tint it another color.

If you've ever decided that to better blend in with a document design, a picture should be converted to grayscale, sepia tone, or given a different colored tint, you might have thought you needed to perform the operation outside of Microsoft Publisher 2010. Think again - you can alter images in a Publisher 2010 document with just a couple of clicks.

1. First, select the image you wish to modify.

2. Click the "Format (Picture Tools)" tab that appears in the Ribbon.

3. In the "Adjust" section, click the "Recolor" pull-down.

From here you can choose from several provided options including No Recolor, grayscale and sepia, as well as variations of blue, red, green, and dark/light themes.

If desired, click the "More Variations" link. A "Recolor Picture" dialog box appears.

Recoloring an image in Publisher 2010

* Click the pull-down next to "Color" to open a pop-up menu where you can choose your own tint from various color scheme and spot colors. Or, click the "More Colors" link from the pop-up menu to choose any color you wish for the tint.

* Keep the "Recolor whole picture" radio button selected to tint the entire picture. Or, click the "Leave black parts black" radio button to not recolor any black sections. You can see a preview in this dialog box to help you determine which option you should choose.

* If you need to undo your changes, click the "Restore Original Colors" button.

Click "OK" to close the dialog box when done.
