SUMMARY: Use PuTTY's event log to help diagnose errors when connecting to remote computers.
Are you having difficulty connecting to a particular client system via PuTTY? You can use the Event Log to view information about the current terminal session such as:
* Encryption algorithms initialized
* Host key fingerprint
* If a shell or command was started
* Password sent
* Remote SSH server version
* Whether access to remote was granted
Reading this event log might help determine if a password was delivered, if a remote server is using an old or buggy SSH server, and whether access was granted but the session terminated due to a problem in opening the remote command shell.
1. Right-click on the PuTTY session window's title bar.
2. Select "Event Log".
3. The "PuTTY Event Log" dialog box appears. You can scroll through the diagnostic information and/or click the "Copy" button to copy the information to the Clipboard.
4. Click "Close" when you are ready to close the event log.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Putty - Diagnose Connection Errors Via Event Log
