Putty - Force Terminal Window On Top of Other Windows

SUMMARY: Configure Putty so that the terminal window remains visible.

If you are performing tasks with Putty that require you to view the terminal at all times, such as scanning log files in real-time for remote server errors, you do not want other windows popping up and covering part of the Putty window.

You can force a Putty session window to appear on top of all other windows, even Putty's configuration window itself.

1. Open Putty.

2. Click on the "Session" link in the left pane.

3. In the right pane, click "Default Settings", or a defined session, then the "Load" button.

4. Expand the "Window" tree in the left pane.

5. Click "Behavior" in the left pane.

6. In the right pane, check "Ensure window is always on top".

7. Click on the "Session" link in the left pane.

8. Choose the session name you picked in #3, or "Default Settings".

9. Click the "Save" button.

Note that if you change the default settings, you will still need to change the settings for each saved session.
