Putty - Display System Menu with Alt key

SUMMARY: Display Putty's system menu merely by pressing the Alt key.

In the Putty SSH client, right-clicking on the window title bar or pressing Alt-Space displays a pop-up menu where you can make configuration changes, view event logs, clear the scrollback buffer, and more. Putty can be configured, however, so that pressing the Alt key alone brings up this menu.

1. Open Putty.

2. Click on the "Session" link.

3. Click "Default Settings", or a defined session, then the "Load" button.

4. Expand the "Window" tree in the left pane.

5. Click "Behavior" in the left pane.

6. Check "System Menu Appears on ALT alone".

7. Click on the "Session" link.

8. Choose the session name you chose in #3, or "Default Settings".

9. Click the "Save" button.

Note that if you change the default settings, you will still need to change the settings for each saved session.
