QuickTime for Windows

Hide the QuickTime Taskbar Icon

SUMMARY: Hide the icon that QuickTime for Windows places on your Windows Taskbar.

These instructions were written for QuickTime 7.1.5. Instructions and screenshots for other versions may vary.

By default, the QuickTime for Windows application places an icon on your Windows taskbar as shown in the below screenshot. This provides double-click access to the QuickTime player, and you can right-click the icon for various QuickTime features.

The QuickTime icon on your Windows Taskbar (screenshot is a Windows XP Taskbar).

If you don't need this functionality and want to de-clutter your Windows Taskbar, do the following:

1. Open the QuickTime for Windows Control Panel applet.

2. When the "QuickTime Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab.

3. Underneath "Tray Icon", uncheck "Install QuickTime icon in system tray".

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box, and the QuickTime taskbar icon will disappear.
