QuickTime for Windows - Clear the QuickTime Download Cache

SUMMARY: For privacy, clear the cache that QuickTime for Windows uses when operating.

These instructions were written for QuickTime 7.1.5. Instructions and screenshots for other versions may vary.

By default, QuickTime for Windows will keep a cache of recently-downloaded movies and multimedia. This way if you frequently view the same multimedia file, QuickTime may be able to pull the file from its cache rather than re-download it over the Internet.

For privacy reasons you may wish to periodically clear this cache content. To do so:

1. Open the QuickTime for Windows Control Panel applet.

2. When the "QuickTime Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab.

3. Underneath "Download Cache", to temporarily clear the cache click the "Empty Cache" button.

4. To completely disable the cache, click and drag the slider all the way to the left so the cache size says 0 MB. Refer to the below screenshot.
