After installing QuickTime for Windows, when you double-click certain types of files including the standard .MOV file, the application will automatically open. Depending on the software configuration, however, other file types may cause QuickTime to start. Besides .MOV files, QuickTime may open when playing .WAV files (sound), .MID files (synthesized music), .MP3 music, or other multimedia files. To alter this list of file types, perform the following tweak: 1. Open the QuickTime for Windows Control Panel applet. 2. When the "QuickTime Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "File Types" tab. 3. When the "File Types" screen appears, you can change options for the following base file types: * Streaming movies * Video * Audio * MPEG * MP3 * Images * Miscellaneous To change the status for a particular file type, click the plus sign next to one of the basic file types to expand the tree. Then, check or uncheck particular file types to determine whether or not QuickTime for Windows should start when opening a particular kind of file from outside the software. Note that the QuickTime software can still play all listed multimedia file types, even if they are unchecked here. However, such file types will have to be manually loaded in the QuickTime software. This screen only affects files that are opened from other software or from Explorer.
4. When done with your selection, click "OK" to close the dialog box. |
