QuickTime for Windows

Sound Stutters or is Distorted

SUMMARY: If audio played in QuickTime for Windows or iTunes sounds stuttered, try this tweak.
 
These instructions were written for QuickTime 7.2. Instructions and screenshots for other versions may vary.

Having difficulty playing sounds and music in QuickTime for Windows or iTunes? If sound playback seems stuttered or distorted, try this quick tweak:

1. Open the QuickTime for Windows Control Panel applet.

2. When the "QuickTime Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Audio" tab.

3. Underneath "Devices", check the box "Safe mode (waveOut only)".

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
