RealPlayer - Tweaks to Fix Sound Playback Issues

SUMMARY: Diagnose issues involving incompatibilities with RealPlayer and your sound card.

When playing multimedia files with RealPlayer, do you find that the audio sounds choppy? Does playing audio files sometimes crash the machine or make it run too slow? If so, you can try tweaking RealPlayer's settings so that it increases your computer's reliability when playing audio files at the expense of somewhat degraded sound quality.

1. Select "Tools" - "Options".

2. When the "Options" dialog box appears, click "Hardware" in the left pane.

3. In the right pane, next to "Sound Card Compatibility", click the "Settings" button.

4. A "Sound Card Compatibility" dialog box will appear. From here, you will need to experiment.

Read the dialog box carefully and change settings, such as the sound playback quality, as desired. Note that some settings will actually increase the CPU usage needed to play clips but may solve incompatibilities with RealPlayer and older sound cards.

5. When done, click "OK" to close the two dialog boxes.
