Enable DVD Parental Controls

SUMMARY: Help prevent children from using the computer to watch PG-13 or NC-17 rated DVDs.

If needed, you can enable parental controls when others try to view DVDs with RealPlayer 10.5. This theoretically can prevent youngsters from watching NC17 movies without your consent. Note that:

* Your DVDs must support parental control locking (some older ones or unrated DVDs might not).

* You should have RealPlayer 10.5 set up as the only DVD player on your system. Otherwise, children can just use another DVD player. However, if all other players on your system support parental controls as well (and you have configured such controls for each player) then RealPlayer 10.5 parental controls may be an option for you.

1. Click "Tools" - "Preferences".

2. When the "Preferences" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click "DVD" in the left pane.

3. In the right pane, check "Enable parental controls".

4. When prompted, enter in a parental controls password that you must remember, and verify the password.

5. Next to "Maximum viewing level", choose a maximum rating from G - NC17 or Unrestricted.

6. Click "OK" to close the "Preferences" dialog box.

Note that if you need to later change the password, go back to the "DVD" preferences and click the "Set Password" button.
