Rhapsody Digital Music Service

What is Rhapsody? And Can I Get it For Free?

SUMMARY: Listen to Internet radio stations and 25 on-demand songs for free every month with the Rhapsody digital music service.

Rhapsody is a digital music service where you can listed to over a million songs on your computer or supported digital music player. Depending on your subscription level, you can either listen to streaming radio stations such as 50s Hits, Metal, Rock Anthems, and Traditional Country; on-demand songs from artists such as Foo Fighters, Garth Brooks, and Branford Marsalis; copy music files to supported media devices; and (for a per-song fee for certain songs) burn music to CD.

Rhapsody works as a client application (one you download and run on your machine). It requires Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. Unfortunately there are not yet official Macintosh or Linux versions.

As of June 1, 2005, when this tip was written, Rhapsody is currently offering a free service whereby you can listen to 25 radio stations, plus 25 songs per month, absolutely free. This service may change or discontinue without notice.

Note that Rhapsody does not directly let you export files streamed from the service to MP3s. For supported digital music players, you can copy files as protected WMA files with the Rhapsody To Go or Rhapsody Unlimited services.
