| Clean Them Often! SUMMARY: A clean scanner will help ensure the best output.
To get the best quality images from your scanner, it is imperative to clean it often, whether or not the scanner is used. Dust can accumulate on scanners even when they are not operating. Fingerprints can smudge the surface. And yes, every little dust, smudge, fingerprint, or foreign particle can and sometimes will get picked up by the scanner. Instead or providing a one-size-fits-all answer, my recommendation is to always read the scanner manual for information on how to clean the device.
