Digital Camera Memory - SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) Media

SUMMARY: What is Secure Digital High Capacity media, and can your camera support it?

As mentioned in a previous tip on MalekTips, older cameras may not read higher capacity memory cards.

This is especially true with digital cameras that support SD (Secure Digital) media. For the most part, these memory cards max out at 2 GB, but a newer format, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) was created, allowing for 8 GB, 16 GB, and higher capacities.

Unfortunately, older digital cameras may not recognize SDHC media, making a potentially expensive investment worthless. Before buying SDHC media, you should first check your digital camera's specifications to see if it handles the media - either check your digital camera manual or visit your digital camera manufacturer's website. Also, some SD but non-SDHC cards greater than 1 GB may not even work with older devices.
