Spybot Search and Destroy

Spybot Keeps Other Programs From Running

SUMMARY: Help force Spybot to allow you to multitask as it scans your machine for spyware and adware.

If, when checking for problems using Spybot Search and Destroy, your machine grinds to a halt and you cannot multitask to run other software, you can tell Spybot to run at a lower priority. This allows other software to run while checking for problems, but it can take Spybot much longer to scan your entire system.

To make changes, you must be in Advanced mode. From Spybot Search and Destroy, click "Mode" and select "Advanced Mode" if it is not already selected. Then, click "Settings", and then in the right pane, click "Settings" from there.

Underneath "Scan priority", select either the radio button "Lowest" for Spybot to run extremely slow, or "Lower" to run slow. Selecting other buttons such as "Normal", "Higher", "Highest", or "Time critical (blocks everything else)" may cause Spybot to run faster at the expense of other currently running software.
