Spyware and Adware - Anti-Spyware Web Sites May Get Disabled

SUMMARY: Unable to download anti-spyware applications? This tip may help.

To help prevent from being eliminated from your system, some pieces of spyware are now making it harder for users to access the websites of software packages that can help eliminate spyware or adware. This means that if you notice a spyware or adware infestation and want to download software to help remove the threats, you will be unable to do so. Access to known anti-spyware sites may be completely denied, you might be redirected to another spyware site, you might be redirected to a site pretending to be an anti-spyware site but really a rogue site, etc.

If this happens to you, your best bet is to download anti-spyware software mentioned in MalekTips from another machine, then burn the software to CD. If you absolutely can't get access to another machine with a CD burner, consider clearing out your Hosts file and then running Mozilla Firefox as mentioned elsewhere in MalekTips. This may bypass some spyware mechanisms to redirect your web accesses, allowing you to browse and download anti-spyware software.
