Spyware Doctor

Automatically Perform Quick Scans

SUMMARY: Schedule Spyware Doctor to automatically perform Quick Scans of your system for possible malware.

Although you can manually perform Quick Scans with Spyware Doctor, you may find it more convenient to have Spyware Doctor automatically perform these scans for you.

Spyware Doctor can quarantine items in the background so you can work on your computer while the scan is running, or it can prompt you for what you want to do if a potential threat has been found.

To enable automatic Quick Scans:

1. From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
2. Make sure "Activate OnGuard" is checked.
3. Click "Scheduler".
4. Click the "Quick Scan" tab.
5. Ensure "Activate Scheduled Quick Scan" is checked.
6. Next to "Run Live Update at", enter the time when you wish the Quick Scan to run.
7. Select whether to automatically run the Quick Scan daily, weekly, or monthly.

* If you select "Daily", determine whether to run the Quick Scan every day, every couple of days, or every weekday.

* If you select "Weekly", determine the day of the week to run the Quick Scan.

* If you select "Monthly", determine the day of the month to run the Quick Scan. While the default is "30", it is indeterminate if keeping this default will have the Quick Scan run during February as it only has 28 days (29 during leap years).

8. Underneath "When an infection is detected", click the pull-down to choose the desired action if automated Quick Scans detect malware:

* "Quarantine" - Automatically remove items, placing them in quarantine so you can restore them later if legitimate items were accidentally removed.

* "Remove" - Automatically remove items completely from your system without prompting (NOT RECOMMENDED).

* "Prompt me"- Spyware Doctor will prompt you for an action whenever it detects a potential threat.

9. When done, click the "Apply changes" link.
