SpywareBlaster - Disable the Internet Explorer Home Page Settings Area

SUMMARY: Help protect your Internet Explorer home page from being accidentally changed.

To help prevent your Internet Explorer home page from changing, either accidentally by you or by spyware, you can have SpywareBlaster apply a change that keeps the page from being altered from within the browser.

Note that this may not work against all spyware and adware as some threats can reverse this setting. However, this tweak may protect against some threats, so it is a good idea to try it anyway.

1. From SpywareBlaster or Internet Explorer, change your home page to whatever you wish, such as about:blank for a blank page (see how to change the home page from SpywareBlaster).

2. From SpywareBlaster, click the "Tools" image.

3. Click the "Misc. IE Settings" link.

4. Check "Disable the IE Home Page settings area in the Internet Tools Control Panel".

Note that if you ever later want to change Internet Explorer's home page from within the browser's Internet Options, you must go back and reverse this tip (clear the checkbox). Also, some other anti-spyware/malware applications may generate a false alarm when they notice this change being applied.

This tip was written for SpywareBlaster 4.1. Instructions and screenshots are subject to change.
