Trend Micro Anti-Spyware

Disable Venus Spy Trap

SUMMARY: Disable Trend Micro's automatic spyware protection if it interferes with your normal computer activities.

Trend Micro Anti-Spyware comes built-in with a feature called "Venus Spy Trap". This monitors your system from potential malicious changes such as:

* New startup entries
* New Windows services
* New browser plug-ins
* Hosts file changes

and more. While many people find these watches useful, others may desire to just use Trend Micro Anti-Spyware for scanning their systems and nothing more.

* Watches may prevent legitimate changes from occurring due to software installations, and some people may find the popup dialog boxes warning of changes annoying.

* Watches take up CPU cycles, meaning your computer might run more slowly. Also, if you are running a laptop powered by a battery, those extra CPU cycles will cause your battery to drain more quickly.

To disable ALL of the Venus Spy Trap watches:

1. Right-click the Trend Micro Anti-Spyware icon on your taskbar.
2. Uncheck "Venus Spy Trap: Enable All Monitors".
