Microsoft Visio 2007

Optimize for Slower Computers or Complex Drawings

SUMMARY: Optimize Visio 2007 display options for slower computers or those rendering complex drawings.

Depending on your computer speed and the complexity of your drawings, Microsoft Visio 2007 may render text and graphics slowly. If necessary you can tweak the software to display objects quicker at the expense of jagged corners and possible image flickering.

1. Select "Tools" - "Options".

2. The "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears. Click the "View" tab.

3. From here you have several options at your disposal:

* Underneath "Text quality", click on the "Faster text display (aliased)" radio button to speed up text display. Text may appear with jagged edges.

* Underneath "Display options" uncheck "Smooth drawing". Note that when you stretch images and shapes you may notice them flickering (flashing).

* Uncheck "Higher quality shape display". Shapes will display quicker but may contain jagged edges.

* Next to "Greek text under", raise this size from the default of 4. This way Visio will not render extremely small text but will instead use gray boxes to signify where text is located. This lets you zoom out of a complex drawing and not have Visio try to render all the text.

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box when done.
