SUMMARY: Toggle whether or not Windows Vista lets you open files or folders by single or double-click.
Depending on your Windows Vista configuration, to select files and folders in Explorer you either need to click on the files or double-click the files. If double-clicking is required, clicking once on a file selects it; twice opens it. If files and folders open on a single click, merely pointing to a file and keeping the mouse cursor stationary selects the file. If you wish to toggle this behavior:
1. Do one of the following:
* Click on the "Organize" button in an Explorer folder, and then choose "Folder and Search Options".
* Open a folder in Explorer. Press the Alt key to temporarily show the menu, and then select "Tools" - "Folder Options".
* Click the Windows/Start button, type "folder options", and press Enter.
2. When the "Folder Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "General" tab.
3. Underneath "Click items as follows", select either the "Single-click to open an item (point to select)" or "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select)" radio button as desired.
If you select the former, you can choose how icon titles should be underlined as they are acting as hyperlinks. Select "Underline icon titles consistent with my browser" to underline, not underline, or underline on hover depending on your Internet Explorer settings. Or, only underline icon titles when you hover your mouse pointer over them by clicking the "Underline icon titles only when I point at them" radio button.
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box and save your settings.
