Windows Vista - Start Menu - Taskbar - Toolbars - Remove Your Name from the Start Menu

SUMMARY: Remove your name as a link to your personal folder from the Windows Vista Start Menu.

Depending on your configuration, the Windows Vista Start Menu may contain your user name at the top-right of the menu. Click your name and Windows Vista will display your Personal folder, providing access to your Documents, Contacts, Music, Videos, Favorites, and other data.

If this link does not appear, you may wish to add it to your Start Menu. Alternatively, if you wish to clean up your Start Menu and do not frequently need access to this folder, the link can be removed.


1. Right-click an empty area of the Windows Taskbar and choose "Properties".

2. When the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Start Menu" tab.

3. Next to the "Start menu" radio button click the "Customize" button.


4. The "Customize Start Menu" dialog box appears. Scroll down the list of options and underneath "Personal folder", click the "Don't display this item" radio button.

5. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
