Windows Vista - Start Menu - Taskbar - Toolbars - Disable Showing Window Previews on Taskbar

SUMMARY: Prevent Windows Vista from showing previews of open windows on the Taskbar.

Depending on your configuration, when you hover your mouse pointer over a window representation on the Windows Vista taskbar, you will see a preview of the window appear above the Taskbar as a thumbnail. This way you can easily browse your open windows without having to click on each Taskbar button to open them.

If these window previews appear slowly, requiring too much computing power to generate, or you simply tire of these automatic previews, they are easy to disable.

1. Right-click an empty area of the Windows Taskbar and choose "Properties".

2. When the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, make sure the "Taskbar" tab is selected.

3. Uncheck "Show window previews (thumbnails)".

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
