Windows Vista - Start Menu - Taskbar - Toolbars - Provide More Room for Quick Launch Icons

In the Windows Vista taskbar, directly to the right of the Start/Windows button and to the left of the list of any running programs is an area called the Quick Launch toolbar. This area provides quick access to frequently run programs such as your web browser or e-mail software.

By default, to provide as much room for the list of currently running programs, you may only have room for one or two icons in the Quick Launch area. Although all icons are accessible (click the double arrows at the right-side of the Quick Launch area for a full list), increasing the size of this toolbar may make accessing the listed software more convenient.

To display more Quick Launch icons:

1. Unlock the Windows Vista Taskbar.

2. Move the pointer on top of the dots displayed between the Quick Launch icons and your running programs. The arrow will change to a double-arrow.

3. Click with your left mouse button and keep the button held down. Now, move your mouse to the right to increase the size provided to the Quick Launch toolbar, or to the left to decrease it.

Note that if you have previously moved Windows Vista's taskbar, adjust steps 2 and 3 accordingly.

4. Re-lock the taskbar when done.
