Winamp 5 - Misc
Check for Updates Manually
SUMMARY: Keep Winamp 5 from automatically looking for software updates. Instead, check for these manually yourself.
Normally, Winamp 5 will check for software updates whenever it runs. While this is a good idea in that it helps ensure you have the latest version, some people may have privacy concerns in that others could theoretically use this to detect how often you run Winamp. To turn this feature off and check for updates manually:
1. Right-click the Winamp 5 title bar.
2. Choose "Options" then "Preferences".
3. Click on "General Preferences" in the left pane.
4. Uncheck "Check for new versions of Winamp at startup".
5. Click "Close" to close the dialog box.
Note that if you disable this feature, you should periodically check http://www.winamp.com for performance, feature, and security updates.
