Winamp 5 - Speed Up by Not Showing Metadata Except on Song Open

Normally, Winamp 5 is configured to display multimedia file metadata in its playlist whenever songs are visible. What does this mean? Instead of showing raw filenames in the playlist editor, Winamp 5 will pull out the file's song and artist name, if applicable, and display this information in the playlist instead. While this provides for a cleaner song view, it also takes time to load metadata from multiple songs. If you don't need this information displayed except for when you actually play a particular song, you can tell Winamp 5 to skip showing metadata information.

1. Right-click on Winamp 5's title bar, choosing "Options" then "Preferences".

2. When the "Winamp Preferences" dialog box appears, click "Titles" underneath "General Preferences".

3. In the right pane, underneath "Metadata reading", click the radio button "Read metadata only when file(s) are played".

4. Click "Close" to close the dialog box.
