Sites to Browse - Misc - How Walkable is your Neighborhood?

SUMMARY: Find out how walkable your home is by seeing its proximity to grocery stores, parks, bookstores, and more.

Tired of guzzling gas and driving an automobile just to run basic errands? Would you like to see which neighborhoods offer convenient access to groceries, movies, coffee shops, parks, restaurants, and other places?

The Walk Score(tm) website offers information on how walkable a particular location is by showing its proximity to these types of locations. Simply enter an address and a map will display with icons showing how close particular establishments may be. Plus, the site generates a "Walk Score(tm)", giving you an idea of the best ("Walker's Paradise") or worst places to be if you do not wish to drive.

Downtown Chicago has many walkable neighborhoods

The website also provides scores on neighborhoods in the top 40 U.S. cities.

As the site mentions, "Walk Score is just an approximation of walkability". Some locations that may be a short distance from a particular address may be virtually impossible to get to while walking (such as requiring crossing a busy highway or freeway). Some may even require swimming!
