Choosing a Web Hosting Provider

Is Search Engine Marketing Included?

SUMMARY: Some web hosting providers perform basic SEM (search engine marketing) as part of their packages.

If you plan on having the general public find your website, you'll need to get it listed, and listed favorably, in search engines. Before choosing a web hosting provider, see if they offer a search engine submittal and/or optimization service. Some offer this feature with select hosting packages and some charge extra.

Forget about those that submit to thousands of search engines. Though your site may be found via more obscure engines, the keys, at least as of June 20, 2006 when this article was written, are to get your website listed on Google, Yahoo!, and MSN Search.

For some people, this feature may be beneficial if they do not wish to worry about advertising, instead focusing their time on the layout, content, and features of a website first.
