"Remove" the Labels of Computer and Recycle Bin Desktop Icons
SUMMARY: Clean up the display of icons on your Windows 7 Desktop - remove the labels of the easily-identifiable Computer and Recycle Bin icons.
If desired, to clean up the Desktop of your Windows 7 machine, you can remove the labels of the Computer and Recycle Bin icons:
1. Right-click one of the aforementioned icons and choose "Rename".
2. Replace the icon text by pressing the space bar once.
However, if the icon is a shortcut (you may see an arrow on the icon), rather than an icon created via the "Desktop Icon Settings" dialog box, you will need to do the following:
Replace the text "Computer" or "Recycle Bin" by holding down the Alt key while pressing 2 5 5 on the numeric keypad.
Of course, you can normally always remove the shortcut and then create a Desktop icon via the "Desktop Icon Settings" dialog box (right-click the Desktop, choose "Personalize", then select "Change desktop icons"), but some people have noted problems with this.
3. Press Enter. The label should disappear.
