Whois Alternative with Optional Summary Display

SUMMARY: WhosIP is a version of the whois command for the DOS prompt running under Windows 95 and up.

If you need another whois-style command for the DOS prompt in Windows for virtually any version - Windows 95 and up, and the Sysinternals Whois doesn't fit the bill, you may wish to check out WhosIP from NirSoft.

This freeware utility adds a command whosip that displays summaries of WHOIS records of host names or IP addresses. Adding the -r parameter displays not just the summary but the full record.

Running WhosIP on google.com

Examples:

whosip -r google.com

Displays the full WHOIS record for Google.

whosip nirsoft.net

Displays a summary WHOIS record for NirSoft.

whosip 66.235.120.101

Displays a summary WHOIS record for 66.235.120.101 (Ask.com).

This software comes as a .ZIP file - simply unzip the file to a new directory and run whosip.exe from the DOS prompt. You may wish to modify the system PATH to allow execution of this program from any directory.
