Do Not Send and Receive Messages When Starting

SUMMARY: Prevent Windows Live Mail from automatically sending and receiving messages at startup.

By default, Windows Live Mail attempts to send and receive messages when the program is started. If desired, you can configure this automatic sending and receiving of messages to not occur. You may want to manage existing messages before processing new ones.

1. Access the Windows Live Mail menu by clicking the menu button (see the screenshot to the right) or press Alt + M.

2. Select "Options".

3. The "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears. Make sure the "General" tab is selected.

4. Underneath "Send / Receive Messages", uncheck "Send and receive messages at startup".

5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
