Display Windows Screenshots with Alt-Tab

SUMMARY: Download a Microsoft PowerToy that displays screenshots when you press Alt-Tab to switch applications.

Normally in Windows XP when you press Alt+Tab to switch between open windows, only the window icons and title bars are displayed in the middle of the screen.

While this gives some representation of each open window, what if instead you could display window screenshots?

Microsoft has released a PowerToy for Windows XP that does just this called "Alt-Tab Replacement". To install:

Using the Windows XP Alt-Tab Replacement PowerToy

1. Visit Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP.

2. On the right side of the page, right-click on the "Taskswitch.exe" link and save it to your Desktop (it will save as "TaskswitchPowertoySetup.exe").

3. Double-click the downloaded program.

4. Click "Run" if prompted to confirm you wish to run the file.

5. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the application.

Now, when you press Alt+Tab, you should see screenshots of your open windows. Note that this PowerToy is not perfect - some windows may not display correctly, and minimized windows may not have their screenshots displayed.
