While playing music in Windows Media Player 10 you may note that some songs normally play louder or softer than others. You can try to compensate for this by enabling auto volume leveling, a feature that works for some song files in Windows Media or MP3 format that contain a volume leveling value.

1. Click the "Now Playing" tab.

2. Right-click on the Windows Media Player 10 title bar, choosing "View" - "Enhancements" - "Crossfading and Auto Volume Leveling".

3. A panel should appear at the bottom of the "Now Playing" tab. Click "Turn on Auto Volume Leveling".

If Auto Volume Leveling works for the current multimedia file you will see the text "Volume leveling applied to current media". You may need to wait a few seconds for the enabling or disabling of auto volume leveling to occur.
