Windows Media Player 10 CD Ripping - Rip CDs to a Different Location

SUMMARY: Placed audio files ripped from CDs in Windows Media Player 10 in a different location on your hard drive.

Normally, when Windows Media Player 10 rips CDs and copies the digital music files to your computer, it places the files in your "My Music" folder, such as for Windows XP and 2003:

C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USER NAME]\My Documents\My Music

However, you might rather have Media Player put the files in a folder "C:\music" or "C:\mp3s". To make the change:

1. Right click on the Windows Media Player title bar, choosing "Tools" then "Options". If you are in Skin mode, just select "Options".
2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "Rip Music" tab.
3, Next to "Rip music to this location", click the "Change" button.
4. Choose your desired folder location and click "OK".
5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
