Shut Down Software When Upgrading SUMMARY: Shut down all software before installing Windows Media Player 10 to help ensure a smooth upgrade.
When upgrading Windows Media Player to version 10, it is recommended to shut down other software during the upgrade process. Some other Microsoft products (i.e. Internet Explorer) may use Media Player components. Keeping such software open during the upgrade might cause system instability or allow the upgrade to fail.
