Windows Media Player 10 Security and Privacy

Clean and Disable the History

SUMMARY: Prevent Windows Media Player 10 from keeping a history of played multimedia files that others accessing your machine could potentially browse.

Windows Media Player 10 normally keeps a list of the last few files and URLs accessed by the player in a History file. This is to help you more easily access frequently-played multimedia files. However, other users that access your machine can also see this information, so this history can potentially be a privacy violation. Thus, if you want to keep Windows Media Player 10 from adding items to the history log and clear items already there:

1. Right-click on the Windows Media Player 10 title bar, choosing "Tools" - "Options".

2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "Privacy" tab.

3. Uncheck "Save file and URL history in the player".

4. Click the "Clear history" button.

5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
