Windows Media Player 10 Security and Privacy

Keep Up-to-Date With Patches

SUMMARY: Why it is important to keep Windows Media Player 10 up-to-date.

Occasionally, patches are made to Windows Media Player 10 to update security. For example, in the past, a vulnerability existed that allowed viruses, spyware, and other malicious files to be downloaded just by opening a specially-crafted copy-protected file.

To help protect your system from such problems, be sure to frequently (at least every month) visit Windows Update by running Internet Explorer and selecting "Tools" - "Windows Update". If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and have AutoUpdate turned on, fixes should automatically download to your machine when they are available.
