Windows Media Player 10 Security and Privacy - Turn off Player Usage Data

SUMMARY: To help protect your privacy, prevent usage data from being transmitted to Microsoft via Windows Media Player 10.

If you installed Windows Media Player 10 with the default settings, the application may be sending usage data to Microsoft. While this option may be enabled to "help Microsoft software and services even better", many people may question this possible invasion of privacy. To check and see if this option is enabled, and if it is, to disable it:

1. Right-click on the Windows Media Player 10 title bar, choosing "Tools" - "Options".

2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "Privacy" tab.

3. If the checkbox under "Customer Experience Improvement Program" is checked, uncheck it.

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
