Windows Vista Installation and Upgrading

Turn Off Anti-Virus Before Upgrading

SUMMARY: Be sure to read Microsoft's instructions for upgrading Vista located inside the CD/DVD package.

Microsoft provides instructions inside their Windows Vista packaging about steps you should perform before upgrading Windows Vista.

One important step in upgrading is to disable your anti-virus software beforehand. Since the upgrade will modify your system files, anti-virus software may complain about this action, pausing, if not stopping altogether, the upgrade process. Since the upgrade version of Windows Vista requires Windows XP or Windows 2000 to be installed, you do not want your upgrade stuck in the middle of the process!
