Don't Have to Get All Updates at Once

SUMMARY: Downloading a few system updates is better than downloading none at all.

Have you had problems running Windows Update due to the large number of updates available? If you are connected to the Internet via a dial-up connection, it may be hard to download all of the updates at once without getting cut off, having the Internet connection disconnected via a phone call (if you have call waiting), needing to use the phone for something else, etc.

If this has happened to you, don't dispair! When you run Windows Update, you do have the ability to only install a critical update or two at a time. To do this, after you scan for updates, click on the "Critical Updates" link. From here, you will see a list of all the recommended updates. If you don't have time to get them all at once, uncheck all of the boxes except for a couple, go through the download/install process, and come back later.

Note that I am NOT suggesting only eventually getting a couple of updates! You should eventually go back and download all of the available critical updates. But, if you have problems getting all of the updates in one batch, then getting a few updates at a time is better than getting frustrated and installing no updates at all!
