Windows XP and Fonts - Hide Font Variations in the Fonts Control Panel

After opening the Windows XP Fonts Control Panel, you may find it cumbersome to navigate through all your fonts, especially if you have many variations of the same fonts. For example, instead of just having the Arial font, you might have

* Arial
* Arial Black
* Arial Black Italic
* Arial Bold
* Arial Bold Italic
* Arial Italic
* Arial Narrow
* Arial Narrow Bold
* Arial Narrow Bold Italic
* Arial Narrow Italic

There is a reason you may have multiple variations of the same font. While some Windows programs can create bold and italic versions of any font on your system, these may not look as sharp and clear as pre-created versions.

While document publishers and graphics designers often purchase and use multiple font variations, if you would rather not display these when accessing the Windows XP Fonts Control Panel, just check "View" - "Hide Variations (Bold, Italic, etc)" from the Control Panel. Now, instead of all the variations, you'll just see "Arial", "Arial Black", and "Arial Narrow".

To later show the variations, uncheck "View" - "Hide Variations (Bold, Italic, etc)".
