| Permanently Remove or File Away Unneeded Fonts SUMMARY: Temporarily or permanently uninstall fonts on your Windows XP system. When you have many fonts installed on your Windows XP system, perhaps hundreds of them, three problems may arise:
1) Your Windows XP boot-up time may increase.
2) Applications that display font previews, such as in a pull-down, may take longer to render all of the fonts.
3) You may find it hard to remember all of your fonts, and the number of fonts may increase the time you spend navigating through all of them.
Thus, you may find the need to remove (uninstall) a particular font or group of fonts from your Windows XP system. To permanently remove a font:
1) Access your Windows XP Fonts Control Panel.
2) Click on a font to remove, or select multiple fonts.
3) Press the "Delete" button.
4) Windows will prompt you whether or not to remove the selected fonts. Confirm your decision.
Instead of permanently deleting fonts, perhaps instead you can file away the fonts in a folder for later use. To do so:
1) Create a folder using Explorer. This can be as simple as right-clicking on your Desktop, selecting "New" - "Folder", typing Unused Fonts and pressing ENTER.
2) Open the folder.
3) Access your Windows XP Fonts Control Panel. Resize and/or move the two folders so they are both visible onscreen.
4) Click on a font or select multiple fonts.
5) Right-click on one of the selected fonts and keep the right mouse button held down, then move the mouse pointer to your "Unused Fonts" folder window and select "Move Here".
6) Confirm moving the read-only files if prompted.
Note that you should NOT remove fonts supplied by Windows XP as they may be used by the operating system or applications! A list of such fonts can be available on Microsoft's website. Note that the website lists international fonts that may not have been installed on your system to begin with.
