You're Not Always Limited to Font Sizes Listed in Dialog Boxes

SUMMARY: TrueType fonts can be resized to virtually any size in most Windows XP applications.

When writing documents in most Windows XP applications that allow the use of different fonts, there may either be a pull-down with available font sizes or a dialog box where you can choose the font size from a selection of sizes provided. Pre-selected font sizes may be listed like so:

* 8
* 9
* 10
* 12
* 14
* 16
...
* 36
* 48
* 72

What if you want a font size between two listed numbers, such as 11, or a really large font size, such as 144? For many TrueType fonts such as Arial and Times New Roman, this can be done. Instead of clicking on a pre-selected font size, try clicking on the listed font size in the pull-down or dialog box and manually type in your desired size.
Depending on your font type and graphics/text program, the font may not display as intended, so experiment. However, TrueType fonts can be scaled to virtually any size if an application supports it.
