Windows XP Service Pack 2 - Computer Restarts Continuously

SUMMARY: A UMAX scanner may prevent Windows XP from running smoothly when you install Service Pack 2.

After upgrading your machine to Windows XP Service Pack 2, if your machine restarts continuously, Microsoft has noted this to be a problem with the UMAX scanner driver. If you have a UMAX scanner and the rebooting occurs, reboot Windows XP to safe mode, remove the driver, and remove the Service Pack 2, then reinstall the service pack. Note that this will make your scanner unusable until a newer Service Pack 2-compatible driver has been installed.
